Good Scientific Practice

BIPS is committed to the rules of good scientific practice. It has developed guidelines to safeguard good scientific practice and to define the procedure for dealing with scientific misconduct. In addition, all employees of BIPS are obligated to comply with the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) Code of Conduct “Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice” and the “Guidelines for Good Scientific Practice in the Leibniz Association”. This applies to scientists as well as non-scientists, as it should be ensured in all areas of activity that the research results of BIPS are reliable and reproducible. The rules are an integral part of the education and training of junior scientists.

BIPS will investigate each concrete suspicion of scientific misconduct. Should the investigation confirm the suspicion of scientific misconduct, appropriate measures will be taken.

Since March 2019, Dr. Maike Wolters has been the ombudsperson of BIPS. She and her deputy Dr. Claudia Börnhorst serve as a confidential advisers to all employees suspecting a violation of the rules of good scientific practice or to those with possible conflicts concerning the authorship of scientific publications. This support is aimed to settle conflicts at an early stage by mediating between the parties. If no solution can be found, further steps will be taken as outlined in the guidelines for safeguarding good scientific practice at BIPS.
