Cross-generational adverse drug effects

Description

The health of children can be affected by drugs taken by the mother during pregnancy, but taking drugs before pregnancy can also have an effect. This is already known for some drugs and there are corresponding warnings; however, for many drugs information is lacking. This is particularly relevant for lipophilic drugs, as they accumulate in fatty tissue and can thus remain in the body for a long period of time. For this project, the pharmacoepidemiological research database (GePaRD) was initially used to generate hypotheses for various lipophilic drugs regarding potential adverse effects in the child due to the exposure of the mother. Scientists at the University of Mainz then investigated these hypotheses in animal models. The final report for this project has been submitted; the results of the study are expected to be published in the course of 2024. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
