Promoting PhDs
BIPS currently employs about 25 doctoral students. Generally, the university professors at the institute are responsible for the main supervision. In addition, up to two experienced scientists join the respective professor to form a supervisory team ensuring comprehensive individual support of the doctoral students. The doctoral rules and regulations of the respective departments of the University of Bremen apply. In addition, BIPS has developed guidelines for doctoral dissertations in order to ensure a high quality of training, to clarify responsibilities and mutual expectations, and to ensure a targeted dissertation phase. The overall goal is to support doctoral students on their way to scientific autonomy and to convey the necessary professional and communication skills. Working on the individual doctoral thesis with the support of the supervisory team is a central aspect of the process. The active and regular participation in the structured doctoral education offered at BIPS since October 2015 is also of vital importance.
