Gender-sensitive heat protection - Health equity for homeless women
Description
- Existing heat protection strategies have so far failed to address the specific circumstances of homeless women adequately. However, homeless women face particular health risks during heat waves. They often lack safe places to seek shelter, low-barrier hygiene facilities, access to drinking water, and support services that take their specific needs into account. This project aims to describe the health risks faced by homeless women during heat waves and other extreme weather events and to identify practical, scientifically sound measures to mitigate them. Using a mixed-methods design, app-based data and qualitative interviews will be analyzed. Based on the results, the project aims to develop recommendations for local governments, a transferable training program, and target-group-specific informational materials for homeless women.
