Gemeinsam Ernährungswende gestalten (GEG)

Description

‘Shaping the food transition together – GEG’ brings together stakeholders from public administration, science, civil society and businesses with the aim of jointly promoting a transformation of the food system in the region. The project is funded as part of the model region competition by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) until February 2027 with a total funding of around 1.25 million euros.

The project consortium consists of Bremer Volkshochschule, Verbraucherzentrale Bremen e.V., MOIN! - Ernährungsrat für Bremerhaven, das Cuxland und Umzu e.V. and the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS under the coordination of the Senatorin für Klima, Umwelt und Wissenschaft (SUKW). The project consortium aims to achieve the following overarching project goals:
  • Implementation of the quality standards of the German Nutrition Society (DGE) for communal catering in as many institutions as possible in the model region
  • Achieving at least 30 per cent organic food in out-of-home catering and the associated expansion of organic farming in the respective model region
  • Establishing and expanding regional value chains to include out-of-home catering and private households
  • Contributing to the strengthening of supply structures for regional, seasonal, and organically grown food, from production and trade to the point of consumption
  • Reducing food waste in communal catering

The project thus supports the implementation of political guidelines such as the 2025 Action Plan for Healthy Nutrition in Community Catering and contributes to the development of an integrated nutrition policy in the federal state of Bremen.

The Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS is responsible for developing a transfer concept, which brings together all measures of the project activities and enables both upscaling in the model region as well as the transferability of the project results to other regions. The concept is aimed at local actors in the out-of-home catering sector and politicians, uses a variety of transfer channels and is being co-developed in collaboration with other partners.
