Evidence-based Public Health

Description

The project "Evidence-Based Public Health" (EBPH) is located in the Department of Prevention and Evaluation at BIPS and cooperates with all BIPS departments as required. The project aims to advance the field of evidence-based public health by generating new evidence and performing methodological research.

The broad objectives of the project are:
(1) to generate new scientific evidence using observational studies,
(2) to synthesize the existing scientific evidence using scoping, systematic and rapid reviews,
(3) to develop new methods, such as a tool for evidence appraisal and search strategies for reviews in new fields, such as digital public health,
(4) to conduct meta-research studies on the quality of scientific evidence.

The project focuses on the following areas of health promotion and prevention:
(1) physical activity promotion
(2) digital technologies
(3) mental health and cancer prevention.

The Department of Prevention and Evaluation is one of the founding members of Cochrane Public Health Europe (CPHE, https://ph.cochrane.org/cochrane-public-health-europe), the European satellite network of the Cochrane Public Health Group. We currently coordinate the CPHE network for the period 2022-2024.

Overview of EBPH activities:
(1) Conducting externally-funded projects aiming to generate new evidence or new methods.
(2) Conducting meta-research studies with external partners.
(3) Providing internal departmental support for the preparation of reviews of all types.
(4) Collaboration with the Leibniz Science Campus Digital Public Health Bremen (LSC DiPH, https://www.digital-public-health.de/).
(5) Active participation in the CPHE network.
