Preventive services and socio-economic status in Germany

Description

In Germany, vaccination against Human papilloma viruses (HPV) is recommended by the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) for all girls and boys aged 9 to 14. They should preferably be concluded prior to initial sexual contact and before the age of 18. Studies have shown an association between socioeconomic status (SES) and several diseases. This study therefore aims to describe the uptake of HPV vaccination in Germany, with regards to SES and other factors (e.g., age and sex). Cross-sectional analyses will be conducted to describe utilization on a yearly basis. Longitudinal analyses will aim to characterize girls and boys without vaccination.

The results of this project will help to conceptualize interventions aiming to reach girls and boys who are not vaccinated against HPV.

For now this project targets HPV vaccination, but evaluation of the utilization of other preventive services, such as colorectal cancer screening, are planned.
