Promoting healthy eating in the setting of municipal daycare centers - KiTa Bremen
Description
- This practice-oriented project has two objectives:
1. to ensure that 89 daycare centers, where up to 9,000 children aged 0 - 14 are cared for every day, provide nutrition that meets the needs of children.
2. to promote healthy, responsible and enjoyable eating habits among children in the interests of climate protection. This goal encompasses both the behavioral area and the surrounding circumstances in which eating and drinking take place.
The goals are to be achieved through a care and training concept, closely coordinated with the Head of Home Economics at Kita Bremen. The measures are primarily aimed at the adults responsible for children's nutrition. The nutritional concept "Eating and drinking as quality features", developed jointly with KiTa Bremen, describes the key quality standards for catering in the facilities. The concept is currently being revised.
Another focus of the project is training and advising housekeeping and teaching staff on infection prevention and hygiene when handling food in communal catering. The manual "Good hygiene practice in nursery kitchens" is regularly revised by BIPS and serves as a basis for training and everyday guidelines.
