Dr. Sarah Forberger

Research Focus:
Dr. Sarah Forberger specialises in health systems research with a specific concentration on implementation science and health policy. Her work seeks to understand and enhance the integration of evidence-based interventions into public health policies and healthcare practices, emphasising areas such as nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco control. Using a blend of evidence synthesis and mixed-methods approaches, Dr. Forberger investigates how contextual factors and environmental structures can aid in fostering healthier lifestyles.

Professional Background:
Dr. Forberger joined BIPS in 2015 and has progressed to the of Senior Scientist in the Department of Prevention and Evaluation in 2021. She also holds a as a Research Fellowship at the Research Centre for IMPACT, University of York, since 2023.

Previously, from 2005 to 2015, Dr. Forberger played a pivotal in the Addiction Research Chair within the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at TU Dresden, directing research projects and coordinating various EU health research initiatives. Her academic journey began at the Technical University of Dresden, where she earned her Master’s degree in Political Science, Computer Science, and History, followed by a Ph.D. in Health Policy. Her doctoral thesis provided a critical analysis of the implementation of European health policy through soft law instruments.

Academic Engagement:
Dr. Forberger serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, and she is an invited reviewer for various international journals and funding organisations. She is actively involved as Co-Spokesperson for the Research Section within the German Research Association (DGPH) and the Implementation Section within the European Cluster of Obesity Research Projects (OBEClust).

Her proactive participation in international research networks underscores her commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and advancing public health research. Dr. Forberger's research stays, including fellowships at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the University of Cambridge’s El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy, alongside an upcoming fellowship at Peking University, further solidify her international profile.
