What do children need to grow up healthy?

Exercise, but also physical inactivity in children and young people, is still of central importance for healthy growing up. This is shown by various studies and surveys, including the Bremen school entry examinations. In particular, children and young people who live in poverty-stricken circumstances are more likely to be overweight or obese and their coordination skills are also unevenly developed. The coronavirus pandemic has further exacerbated this trend. Other aspects such as mental health and the design of outdoor spaces play an important role in this context.

This symposium will address the topic of physical activity for children and young people in different settings such as daycare centers, schools and neighborhoods. After introductory keynote speeches on promoting physical activity from the perspective of daycare centers, schools, neighborhoods and the sports sector, there will be a workshop phase in the afternoon in which the topic of promoting physical activity will be linked to various other relevant topics. Participants will have the opportunity to gain new practical knowledge and exchange ideas with each other. The specific topics can be found below.

The symposium is aimed at stakeholders from the fields of education and pedagogy (daycare centers and schools), health, social affairs, exercise, sport, nutrition, public health, consumer protection, neighborhood management, health insurance companies and politics, as well as anyone interested in the topic.
