Non-communicable diseases contribute substantially to the disease burden globally, and increasingly so in many African countries, in addition to the ongoing burden due to infectious diseases including the recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The share of NCD has been rising continuously over recent decades, with NCD now taking a leading position in many SSA countries´ mortality and morbidity burden as demographic and lifestyle change progresses.

A joint research initiative tries to counter this trend. It builds on existing interinstitutional collaborations between the BIPS and African University.

The objective of the current initiation project is to
•    strengthen the early collaboration established between the BIPS and partner institutions
•    identify current challenges in NCD research in the participating countries
•    establish further collaborations
