Looking forward to her new role: Dr. Ronja Foraita.

"I am very glad about the trust placed in me and the opportunity to support and promote research and development in the field of biometrics internationally as Secretary of the IBS - German Region," says Foraita.

Foraita has been head of the "Statistical Methods for Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology" group at the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS since July 2010. One focus of her research is on models for modeling and analyzing dependency structures and genetic epidemiology. Her work is characterized by a strong focus on the development and application of innovative statistical methods in genetic research.

"My first contact with the professional society was in 2000, when I was given the opportunity to present my thesis. This event was a turning point for me and strengthened my commitment within the scientific community. In 2006, I worked with five other young statisticians to ensure that young statisticians were given more visibility in the professional society. Our efforts led to the founding of the IDS-DR Working Group for Young Statisticians, which is now one of the most active groups in the field. From 2009 to 2013, I had the honor of serving on the society's advisory board, and between 2007 and 2013, I took on the role of spokesperson for the Population Genetics and Genome Analysis working group. I was also co-spokesperson of the Ethics and Responsibility Working Group from 2012 to 2022. And in 2014, BIPS held the annual conference together with the Competence Center for Clinical Trials at the University of Bremen. This specialist society is simply close to my heart," says Foraita about her many contributions and long-standing commitment.

The IBS is an international organization dedicated to the development and application of statistical and mathematical theories in the life sciences. The German Region of the IBS promotes the scientific exchange and further education of its members in Germany. As Secretary, Foraita will play a key role in the organization and implementation of events and projects of the German Region to promote the exchange of knowledge and latest research results within the biometric community.
