Transfer path 7: Policy advice

BIPS regularly advises decision-makers and relevant interest groups with the aim of providing scientifically sound and practical decision-making support, proactively and on request. This advice is provided in various formats, including expert statements, policy briefs, position papers or participation in committees and advisory boards. In this way, the institute contributes to systematically incorporating current research findings into political, administrative, and social decision-making processes.

At the local and regional level, this often happens through BIPS' direct and established contacts in Bremen's political and administrative circles. Researchers at the institute are in constant dialogue with departments, authorities, and other stakeholders and support decision-making processes, particularly in the areas of prevention, health promotion, and evidence-based care. At the national level, BIPS uses its own professional networks as well as the structures and formats of the Leibniz Association, for example in the context of initiatives such as Leibniz im Bundestag, to bring research findings into overarching political discourses.

At the international level, BIPS scientists are also active in numerous policy advisory committees. This includes participation in international organizations and expert groups, such as in cooperation with the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Through these multi-level advisory activities, BIPS contributes to evidence-based health policy at the local, national, and international levels.
