Bremen Senator for Environment, Climate, and Science Visits BIPS

Today, we were pleased to welcome the Senator for Environment, Climate, and Science to BIPS for an introductory visit. In addition to gaining insights into the institute’s diverse work and its relevance to society, the visit provided an opportunity for an open exchange on key issues shaping the future.

During the visit by Bremen’s Senator for Environment, Climate, and Science, Dr. Henrike Müller, a shared foundation for discussion quickly emerged, enabling an open exchange on key priorities and future initiatives. Institute Director Prof. Dr. Iris Pigeot, together with other members of the executive leadership team and department heads, presented BIPS’s core research areas and provided insights into current developments. She highlighted the significant growth of the institute’s Digital Public Health activities as well as the successful establishment of a Bremen-wide research data infrastructure, which is intended to evolve into a state-level initiative in the future. The discussion also emphasized the importance of the Bremen Model Region for Cancer Prevention and the contributions of the Leibniz Association to Germany’s High-Tech Agenda. The visit concluded with a tour of the institute building and a look at the new extension currently under construction.

Close collaboration between science and policymakers is essential to ensure that research findings inform decision-making and are translated into societal practice. At the same time, public policy challenges provide important impetus for research. We thank Senator Müller for her visit and appreciate the strong support and recognition from the political community.
