Soaking up the sun for science

BIPS is going green: With its new photovoltaic system, the institute is now producing its own electricity – and making an important contribution to climate protection.

The new photovoltaic system on the roof of the building now produces climate-friendly electricity, making the institute a little more independent of external energy sources. On the first day, 90 kWh of electricity was generated from solar energy – a visible success for the BIPS sustainability concept. On sunny days, the yield should be significantly higher.

“The commissioning of the photovoltaic system is an important step in making our institute more sustainable,” says Dr. Norman Wirsik, BIPS's commercial director. "As a scientific institution, we have a special responsibility, also in the way we use resources. I am pleased that we can make an active contribution to climate protection with this measure.”

The use of renewable energies is part of BIPS' strategy to further reduce its ecological footprint. With projects such as the photovoltaic system, the institute is setting an example for sustainable science and showing how research and climate protection can be combined.
