Year of Science: BIPS Researcher Raises Awareness About Cancer Prevention

On August 27, Prof. Dr. sc. hum. Ulrike Haug, head of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology at the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS, answered questions from the audience as part of the interactive traveling exhibition “Health XP.”

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Haug answered questions about cancer research, treatment approaches, and everyday scientific life at the Oldenburg Waffenplatz as part of the “Meet the Scientist” event, no registration required, open to all visitors.

Health XP brings the medicine of tomorrow right into the heart of everyday life: to marketplaces and city centers. At four themed stations (personalized medicine, prevention, women’s health, and cancer) the exhibition, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), showcases current research approaches in a hands-on way. Using their own avatars, visitors make health-related decisions in interactive games and experience in a playful way how behavior and medical progress interact.

Prof. Haug’s appearance at Health XP was part of a nationwide tour of the exhibition and provided a direct opportunity for dialogue between the scientific community and the public.
