The program included visits to leading research institutions such as the University of Tokyo, Osaka University, Kyoto University, and the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN). In addition, the delegation exchanged ideas with representatives of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japanese Ministry of Education and Science on current research priorities and future opportunities for cooperation. Hajo Zeeb also had the opportunity to meet colleagues from Nagasaki University and Osaka University, with whom BIPS and Department 11 of the University of Bremen have concluded cooperation agreements.

“I was very pleased to be able to take part in this trip,” said Prof. Zeeb. “On the one hand, to promote understanding between scientists from Japan and Germany, but also to understand which topics are particularly relevant in health research and public health in Japan and what similarities and differences there are with Germany.”

At the end of the trip, representatives of the Leibniz Association, including Prof. Zeeb, presented the importance of interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and international cooperation for scientific progress at the German Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
