1. Understanding the interplay of health determinants

How do environmental, behavioral and biological factors influence our health?

Based on large population-based studies, we explore the complex interplay of multiple health determinants in the development of chronic non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and their precursors. Our research focuses on health hazards caused by physical, chemical or biological factors, such as radiation exposure, air pollution, or genetic susceptibility. For this purpose, we use questionnaire data, medical examinations and biological samples, among other things. In addition, we take into account individual health behavior as well as political, social, and environmental conditions, as they collectively influence our health.
