Transfer path 5: Transfer via minds

This includes, in particular, transfer via science-based education and training of actors for tasks outside the science system. The promotion of young scientists is a priority at BIPS. Accordingly, we are involved in all phases of academic training. This includes university teaching and the supervision of qualifying theses, the promotion of doctoral students, e.g., through our structured doctoral training, as well as the support of PostDocs in developing their own research profile. Our measures not only qualify young scientists for a scientific career but also for highly qualified jobs outside of science.

In addition, we offer various trainings at regional, national and international level. At the regional level, our nutrition experts conduct nutrition and hygiene training for the staff of most daycare centers in Bremen. We also provide quality advice on this topic nationwide and have recently started working with young people with intellectual disabilities living in residential care. Activities include staff training and evaluation of all healthy eating interventions. BIPS leads a nationwide graduate program called “Data Train – Training in Research Data Management and Data Science” which is complementary to the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) initiative. At the international level, we coordinate a WHO/Europe online training course for early and mid-career professionals in the field of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with European WHO Collaborating Centres and the WHO European Office for NCD Prevention and Control.
