PD Dr. oec. troph. Antje Hebestreit

Antje Hebestreit leitet am BIPS die Fachgruppe Lebensstilbedingte Erkrankungen in der Abteilung Epidemiologische Methoden und Ursachenforschung. Als Ernährungsepidemiologin koordinierte Dr. Hebestreit ab 2006 den deutschen Survey und die Intervention der IDEFICS Studie, die größte europaweite Interventionsstudie zu Übergewicht, Adipositas und weiteren durch Ernährung und Lebensstil bedingten Gesundheitsstörungen bei Kindern (2006-2012). Sie war Mitglied des Lenkungsausschusses der nachfolgenden Kohortenstudie I.Family (2012-2017) und war zudem Mitverantwortliche des Arbeitspakets 3 ‘Assessment of dietary behaviours ‘. Dr. Hebestreit war Mitglied der Lenkungsgruppe des JPI-HDHL DEDIPAC Netzwerkes (2013-2016) und koordiniert zurzeit Arbeitspaket 2 ‘Monitoring and surveillance’ des JPI-HDHL Policy Evaluation Networks (2018-2021); auch hier ist sie Mitglied der Lenkungsgruppe. Von 2022 bis 2025 ist sie Co-Projektleiterin des JPI HDHL Projektes 'Wearable Sensoren für die Erfassung von Bewegungs- und Ernährungsverhalten' (WEALTH).
Im Jahr 2021 habilitierte sie sich für Public Health an der Universität Bremen. Nach ihrer Promotion im Jahr 2004 an der Justus-Liebig Universität forschte Dr. Hebestreit für die Harvard Universität. Während dieser Zeit beriet sie zudem das UN-Welternährungsprogramm während eines Einsatzes in Guinea-Bissau.
Über die Jahre konzentrierte sich ihre Arbeit auf die Rolle der Nahrungsaufnahme und des Ernährungsverhaltens in der Entstehung von nicht übertragbaren Krankheiten, insbesondere des kindlichen Übergewichtes.

  • Entwicklung und Durchführung epidemiologischer Studien zu den Auswirkungen der Ernährung, der körperlichen Bewegung und des Lebensstils auf die Gesundheit spezifischer Bevölkerungsgruppen wie Kinder
  • Erforschung von Risikofaktoren für die kindliche Adipositas, die metabolische Gesundheit und Knochengesundheit in Industrie- und Entwicklungsländern
